Our Founder: Mr. Keshab Karki

At the heart of Shangri-La Boutique Hotel is a remarkable individual, Mr. Keshab Karki. Born and raised in Nepal, Keshab's journey is a testament to the power of resilience and the desire to make a positive impact.

As the eldest son in a family of five siblings, Keshab understood the importance of education from a young age.

His dream was simple yet profound: to provide his brothers and sisters with access to quality education.

Determined to turn this dream into reality, Keshab made a bold decision. He left school in the third grade and, at just ten years old, ventured to Kathmandu with his uncle. There, he found refuge in the home of a generous doctor who welcomed him as part of their family.

In that nurturing environment, Keshab not only learned the art of Nepali tea making but also absorbed the finer nuances of hospitality.

He was treated as one of their own and was encouraged to pursue his studies, including English.

Reflecting on those formative years, Keshab says, "It was a wonderful experience. I learned so much, was treated very well, and was able to realize my dream of helping my family and providing an education for my siblings."

At the age of 15, Keshab married, as was the custom in Nepal at the time.

To support his growing family, he took on a series of diverse jobs, from cooking to mechanics to taxi driving. Despite working tirelessly, he still faced challenges in providing for his children.

It was during this time that Ann Jennings entered Keshab's life. Her kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on his family. Ann not only bought him his first taxi but also supported his children's education while he worked on establishing his business.

Keshab fondly recalls, "Without her love and compassion, I would not be in the position I am today, being able to pay forward her love and kindness in meaningful ways."

 

The Birth of Shangri-La Boutique Hotel

After saving diligently for twelve years, Keshab's dream was within reach. He partnered with a friend to open a hotel in the Kathmandu area. Just four years later, his determination and hard work allowed him to establish his very own establishment - Shangri-La Boutique Hotel.

This hotel is more than just a place to stay; it's a reflection of Keshab's enduring spirit, his commitment to excellence, and his passion for hospitality. As a family-owned and operated business, Shangri-La Boutique Hotel embodies the values of warmth, care, and genuine service.
